When Shelly Blount saw a post from their local shelter about a dog about to be put down, she didn’t hesitate to call them up and ask if she could save the pup. Thankfully, someone else already called the shelter and adopted the dog.
The lady knew that the Rowan County Animal Shelter located in North Carolina was overcrowded, so she asked if there was any other pup at risk of being put down. The receptionist said that a Chocolate Labrador named Caleb was next on the list. Shelly, who lived in Virginia, immediately went on a three-hour drive with a friend to come and save the pup.
Shelly was told that people walk past Caleb because he is almost six years old — a little older than the other dogs. He was the only pup in the shelter who didn’t have any inquiries.
When they arrived at the shelter, Shelly was informed that two other dogs were also about to be put down soon. The lady couldn’t just let that happen to those angels, so she also adopted them!
Shelly and her friend loaded the three dogs in the car and drove back home. According to them, Caleb was the most excited one. He kept giving the ladies kisses from the back seat and couldn’t stop wagging his tail.
On the other hand, Charisma was well-behaved and slept the entire trip. Bella was at the front seat with Shelly’s friend, who also enjoyed the car ride.
One of Shelly’s friends who already had a Labrador reached out to her and adopted Caleb. The pup is now happily enjoying his life with his new sister, Kyra. His new dad proudly describes him as a seventy-six-pound lap dog. What a baby!
Shelly’s boyfriend adopted Bella. The pup recently had a trip to the groomer and is enjoying her new haircut. The two are bonding really well, according to Shelly.
Charisma, on the other hand, was rushed to the vet one day. That was when Shelly knew that the pup was actually pregnant and was due the week after!
The mama dog eventually gave birth to seven healthy puppies — three girls and four boys. Charisma is doing a good job nursing them, according to Shelly.
Shelly only wanted to save one dog but ended up saving ten lives instead. If you wish to see more inspiring stories like this, check out the video below featuring another lady saving dogs from being put down!
