Jon Mancinetti was well-known for his service towards foster dogs. He went to the local shelter to adopt his own Pitbull, but while he was at the shelter, another canine called his attention.
New friend
Jon looked around the shelter while a volunteer fetched his new dog Smokey. Down the row of kennels, a beautiful Pitbull barked nonstop as he called for attention. Another volunteer said that the dog was Wiley and stuck at the shelter for three months.
Wiley rested up against the gate of his cage as Jon tried to pet him. The dog refused to move and just stared at Jon with sad eyes. Jon’s plan was to take home Smokey, but he couldn’t stop thinking about the other pitbull because he knew that Wiley needed help as well.
Jon tossed and turned in his bed all night as he thought about the other Pitbull. After considering all the factors, he woke up early the next day and went back to the shelter to get Wiley. The dog looked so excited as his cage opened and he ran straight to Jon.
Jon drove home with the dog staring happily out the window. When Wiley first got to the home, he had no idea how to play with Smokey and felt a little lost during the first few days.
With the help of Jon and Smokey, Wiley eventually figured everything out. Jon fostered Wiley for over eight months, making it his longest foster ever. It was because he wanted to make sure that the dog went to a perfect family.
Forever family
Jon stayed confident throughout his search, and luckily, he found a potential adopter in Modesto, California. Because of his constant social media posts, a family reached out to him and said they’d absolutely love to meet Wiley. They were eager to adopt the dog, and Jon knew he found the right people.
The day came when Jon had to say goodbye to Wiley. He delivered the dog to his new home and teared up a bit during the ride.
Once they got to Wiley’s new home, the family excitedly waited at the front door. Jon sat down and gave Wiley one last hug as he said his goodbyes to him. Jon felt grateful that he was able to give Wiley the family he deserved.
