For a man who lost a lot of things because of Hurricane Harvey, what would he do when a similarly colossal hurricane makes a severe landing again in his country? Evacuate his family to avoid the wrath of the storm? Save his family’s belongings before the hurricane hits the land? Actually, the first thing he did was far — too far — from these things.
For a man who had experienced the wrath of a massive hurricane, he knew exactly how it feels to be in a desperate situation. So, when Hurricane Florence was about to hit North Carolina, he already knows what needs to be done– and that is to rescue people and save their lives.
It turns out that the man’s background explains his selflessness and bravery. This man is former Marine Ryan Nichols, one of the first people who rushed to North Carolina to see if people might need their help there.
When he was interviewed at Ellen Degeneres Show, he shared with Degeneres that when they’ve finally assembled all the rescuers and the equipment they need, the huge storm was only about 18 hours away from hitting the land.
The first place where they responded was a nearby church where more than 25 people were trapped inside.
In other words, they’ve got only less than a day to race with the storm. The next place was unexpectedly because of the howls for help. And when they searched where the howls were coming from, they found a huge cage with terrified dogs getting desperate to get out of their cage because of the rising water.
But these dogs’ fear was suddenly filled with hope and delight when they saw Ryan and his team approaching, ready to save them from the rising water.
During his interview with Ellen Degeneres, Ryan Nichols sincerely thanked everyone who made the rescue a success, including his mentors who encouraged him to push through with the mission. He also thanked David, who helped him navigate the road, took care of the people they rescued, and gave crucial direction on the rescue mission. Their great teamwork, according to Ryan, is what made their mission a total success.
Ryan, David, and his team weren’t expecting or asking anything in return from their rescue mission but to just successfully rescue as many people and animals as possible.
