A visitor to Destrehan’s Splash Park went inside a public restroom and was surprised to find a large black labrador by herself. She had a water bottle next to her and the bones of a whole chicken. The person who discovered the senior canine reported the matter, and Louisiana animal control officers were called in to handle the situation. When the rescuers got close to the calm pooch, they noticed a small note next to her.
The message was a bit vague. It just said to be nice to the dog and asked anyone who found her to give the pooch some water. It further stated the owner would be back in the morning as they got stranded and they don’t have a car.
The animal control officers cannot just leave the pooch behind, so they brought her to the local shelter for safekeeping.
Wanderers
The very next day, the owner did come back and went looking for his pet. He was directed to the shelter, and there he told them his story.
He and the dog, named Ladybird, had been together since the canine was just six-weeks-old. For more than a decade, they spent their life drifting from one state to another. The man did odd jobs to get money, but they were basically homeless. When they found the dog in Louisiana, they were trying to go back to their family in North Carolina.
Unfortunately, money had run out, and they had no means to travel anymore.
Help from kind strangers
The dog owner was staying in a shelter as well and was trying to save up some money. He asked if Ladybird could stay for a while until he has enough to get them back on the road. Not only did the staff agree, but they also made steps to help the dog and her human. They will find transport for the dog, and they could meet in North Carolina.
The staff first got Ladybird medical help. Once she was healthy enough, they paid for her trip to Virginia Beach. She was dropped off at the local shelter, and then a volunteer drove her to the home of her owner’s relatives. In several days, Ladybird’s human will reunite with her.
