Even though many of California’s areas are urbanized, some wildlife still make their way into the city, which can be problematic for pet owners. This is what happened to one family whose Doberman was recently attacked and killed by a mountain lion. The incident was captured on camera and serves as a warning to homes with pets in their backyards.
The video clip showed the dog napping happily while tied to his leash outside the family’s backyard. At approximately 4:00 a.m., a mountain lion softly entered the yard. Since the Doberman was on a leash, he was also unaware of what was about to happen. This made it significantly harder for the dog to defend itself.
In the blink of an eye, the lion almost effortlessly overpowered the dog. The dog was taken by surprise, and because he was on a leash, the mountain lion was able to subdue him quickly. Blood was all over the ground as a result of the attack.
A few moments later, the mountain lion let go of the dog because he believed it had already died. The mountain lion fled, but the dog moved and barked as loudly as possible for help. The wild animal was also frightened by the dog’s fierce bark, and it rushed away.
The dog’s family was awakened by the dog’s barking, so they hurried outside to investigate. Upon seeing the dog’s predicament, they worried for the dog’s health but they were totally grateful that the dog was still alive. The dog’s family brought him immediately to a local clinic for treatment for all of his injuries.
The dog was really lucky that nothing graver happened. He was also quite intelligent to know what to do during that dire time. Perhaps it was instinct kicking in. But what really matters is that he survived.
