Nothing could be more heartwarming than this video of a multitude of dogs on wheelchairs, running across a beach for the very first time. The mob is led by a dark-haired woman in red, running back and forth the shoreline while holding a bag of dog food.
This scenario wouldn’t be possible if not for the person behind this video – a British-Morrocan woman named Salima Kadaoui, the founder of SFT Animal Sanctuary of Tangiers in Morroco.
SFT Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit group where animals with disabilities are rescued and rehabilitated. At the sanctuary, it’s not just the dogs who rule the place – there are cats, donkeys, and monkeys as well! It goes to show that Salima’s love for animals knows no kind.
Sally’s work began in 2012 after her father passed away. She moved back to Tangier and focused on caring for the neglected and unwanted animals in the city. Building the shelter wasn’t easy, and many people discouraged her, saying that she won’t change things.
Of course, this strong, determined, and passionate woman didn’t let those words affect her. Presently, the shelter is now home to 600 different animals. The 18 dogs Salima took with her to the beach are just 18 of the 600.
It’s heartwarming to see how one person’s love could transform so many lives. These 18 dogs have a specialized wheelchair of their own to run like any other dog.
Instead of being confined in a kennel, tied to a post, or worse, put to sleep, all of them had an incredible opportunity to visit the beach, run around, play with the water and touch the sand.
For many dogs, it’s a dream come true! You might even be surprised that these pups could run as fast as those who don’t need wheelchairs.
One of the dogs even playfully got Salima’s slippers and nibbled on them playfully before returning them to Salima. And this is enough proof that these differently-abled dogs are no different from any other dog.
The dogs are indeed grateful to beautiful people like Salima for making all of this possible. Salima proved all her naysayers wrong when they said she’ll never change anything – because clearly, she did!
