Takis Protestakis discovered two dogs with a severe case of mange in the streets of Greece. The Takis Shelter founder immediately rescued the helpless pups and brought them to his rescue facility.
Takis reassured the two dogs, Thelma and Louise, that he would do everything it takes to help them get better. Takis and his colleagues quickly started addressing Thelma and Louise’s health problems as soon as they arrived at the facility.
Louise’s health quickly improved with each passing day, but Thelma struggled to recover and needed more time to heal. Takis shared that his foster cats did not hesitate to gather and lay on Thelma’s body to keep her warm.
Takis recalled that the cats looked as if they knew Thelma needed all the love and attention she could get because everyone stayed close to her 24/7. The cats kept grooming Thelma and did their best to nurse her back to health.
Takis shared that Thelma eventually started to get better after a couple of months of being under his care. He noticed that Thelma’s appetite was growing more as time passed because she could finally finish her bowl filled with food and water.
Takis said that Thelma is undergoing therapy and consistently taking all the medicines she needed to address her health problems. Takis admitted how relieved he was when he started noticing Thelma’s tail wagging slowly.
Takis knew from that moment that Thelma would make it out alive. He shared how proud he was that Thelma was a real survivor who did not give up on life.
Takis recalled that Louise kept a close eye on Thelma and followed her wherever she went. Takis hoped that Louise and Thelma would be adopted together because the two pups were inseparable right after they arrived at his shelter.
