Each year, thousands of dogs spend their holidays at their respective animal shelters. Although these dogs deserve warm and loving homes, it would be impossible to house them during the yuletide season. But even if this is a challenging task, the Jacksonville shelter’s volunteers started a unique tradition back in 2012 to look for foster homes for their dogs.
Ever since this activity came into fruition, it has been known as “Silent Night.” Through the years, this activity helped several shelter dogs find foster parents. According to the volunteers, the activity gives so much hope to the dogs that they are deserving of love.
The purpose of the activity is to find a foster home for the dog during the holiday season. Thankfully, many families in Florida are willing to help dogs feel love during the Christmas season.
Apart from companionship, these dogs find comfortable places to stay during the holiday season. Likewise, the dogs receive ample support from their foster families like food, water, and other basic needs.
Adam Hughes is one of the frequent foster parents for shelter dogs during this season. He said that he makes it a yearly thing because he knows that dogs deserve a home during this festive season. Adam is a fur parent to three dogs from different animal shelters. This is why he became too close to dogs because he had first-hand experience taking good care of them.
According to Adam, as much as he wants to adopt as many shelter dogs as possible, he only has limited resources. This is why he volunteers to be a foster parent during the Christmas season to put away the burden to some of the animal shelters. Adam encourages other people to do the same because it is a life-changing experience.
