Jill is an adorable Pit Bull mix who was only a year old when she was seen walking on the streets of a quaint Texas neighborhood. She was brought to the Clay County Animal Shelter, which was fortunate for her as it is a no-kill shelter. This was crucial as no one knows for sure when she would be adopted.
Unfortunately, Jill watched other dogs come and go, while she got passed on day after day. Although she was well-loved by the shelter staff, they hoped that she would find a forever home. It’s always best for any dog to have a family of its own. The patient pooch finally found one, but it took ten years before she got her own family.
Returned to shelter
Bonnie Stone, the manager of Clay County Animal Shelter, said that Jill wasn’t completely ignored. They received several applications for her but they somehow fell through. Most of the time, the reason is her breed. Most landlords didn’t allow pit bulls on their property.
There was also a time when a family took her home. But several months later, the pooch was returned. Jill was a very good climber and would often escape from the yard. When the family became exhausted looking after her and having to search for the dog whenever she escaped, they decided to give her back.
Her adventurous spirit was too much for them to handle.
Senior pooch
Finally, in 2022, Jill met the woman who would love her forever. A Henrietta resident named Keelie Blassingame went to the shelter to adopt a dog, specifically a senior pooch. She met the long-time resident and when she learned her story, she was convinced that Jill was the one for her.
When the staff was informed about her decision, they were all overjoyed. They could see that Keelie was very determined to give Jill a loving home. They also knew this would be the last time the pup would be going through their doors. She had found her family at last.
