One man’s decision to adopt a dog ultimately saved his own life. There was no way he could’ve foreseen it happening, but falling in love with the homeless pooch proved that fate played a role in the two of them coming together.
It all started when 52-year-old Chad Mason was moving into his new house in Canton, Ohio. While getting his stuff inside, a friendly stray pit bull wandered toward him and even walked between his legs. The dog kept following him around, and Chad felt a certain connection with the pooch.
He wasn’t ready to adopt a pet then, so he took the lovable pup to the local shelter. A week later, he decided to adopt the pit bull and named her Bunny.
The perfect companion
Chad was very happy having Bunny around. He lived alone in his home, and the sweet pooch provided the companionship he needed. They developed a very strong bond, which likely prompted his dog to save his life.
Several months after taking Bunny into his home, Chad suffered a cerebral stroke and passed out. He fell to the floor hard. When the dog owner regained consciousness a few moments later, he could not feel anything on his right side. Bunny was all over him, sensing something was wrong with her dad.
Getting help
The dog ran outside their home and stopped by the sidewalk. She then started barking furiously, trying to get the attention of anyone. In the meantime, Chad was mustering all his strength and slowly crawled outside his house.
One neighbor, who knew Chad and Bunny very well, noticed the commotion and went out of her home to see what was happening. She knew the rescue dog never acted that way and that something was wrong. She then saw Chad slowly dragging his body out the front door. The stunned neighbor called emergency services right away.
Chad was taken to a hospital and spent several weeks recuperating. Even he went home, he had to undergo therapy and regular treatments. Thankfully, Bunny was at his side, encouraging him to recover.
