Hope for Paws is a California-based non-profit animal rescue organization founded in 2008. Their mission is to rescue abandoned animals and those who are in danger. They are in charge of the veterinary expenses and rehabilitation. Sometimes they work with other animal welfare groups to find permanent homes for them.
Recently, Hope For Paws received a phone call regarding a Pit Bull found in the field next to the caller’s house and asked for help to rescue her.
The dog was heavily pregnant and was due to give birth at any time. Volunteers JoAnn Wiltz and Katie McKittrick came to rescue her. Meanwhile, the caller took care of her until they arrived.
When they did, the gray Pit Pull excitedly walked up to them. She was friendly and highly approachable, so it was easy for them to pet, feed her and give her a leash. She was trusting, and it seemed that she knew they’re going to save her.
The volunteers named her Waffles, and they brought her to the clinic right away. They assessed her with an ultrasound, where they learned that she was pregnant with seven puppies. After the check-up, they gave her a nice shower.
Afterward, JoAnn decided to bring her home to foster her until she gives birth. And just a few after taking her home, Waffles went into labor!
Out came the first puppy, named Pancake. Sausage came next, followed by Beignet, Doughnut, Hashbrown! Then, the last one, Croissant, came a little later. Thankfully, all puppies are safe, thanks to JoAnn, who stayed by Waffles during the entire birth.
Thanks to the organizations like Hope For Paws and the people who support them, because Waffles didn’t have to give birth out in the streets!
