At the age of 14, Meena Kumar learned that she was an adopted child. However, this reality did not hurt the girl’s ego but instead taught her to be thankful. After knowing her real identity, Meena wanted to pay it forward. This is why the young girl became instrumental in donating $14,000 to Muttville. Muttville is an organization that caters to senior dogs.
Meena’s story of adoption is heartwarming. In an interview, Meena shared that she got abandoned by her birth parents when she was only nine months. Meena was found inside a basket on a university campus in Pune, India. It was a school official who saw the basket and gave Meena to a local orphanage.
She stayed at the orphanage for a year before a couple adopted Meena. After a few years, Meena’s family migrated to San Jose, California, where she spent most of her childhood. Before leaving Indian, Meena developed an inclination to dogs. At some point, she fostered dogs and looked for potential adopters for them.
As soon as Meena set foot in California, Meena likewise brought with her the love for dogs. It was through a neighbor that she learned about the Muttville Senior Dog Rescue. After learning about the organization, Meena became a volunteer.
According to Meena, she found fulfillment in caring for dogs. At the shelter, Meena developed a good working relationship with the volunteers. But most importantly, the teenager became closed with the shelter dogs, who needed her help.
On the side, Meena provided pet sitting services, which earned her $7,000 per month. She saved a part of this money, and when she raised $14,000, Meena decided to donate the amount to Muttville. Since she works for the organization, Meena knows the struggles that the shelter faces, so she extended help.
