Every person’s weight loss journey is unique. Some of us try to shed off extra pounds so we could feel good about ourselves. Others are forced to do it because of health reasons. There are also those whose reasons change as they enter different phases of their weight loss journey.
Such is the case of Wolfgang, an obese Beagle who wanted to lose weight so he could fit through the front door. Well, technically, his main reason was so he could play with his canine friends outside. That was until he and his fur parents, Erin McManis and Chad Schatz, realized his body had ballooned to a size that couldn’t fit through the hole they allotted for him on the door.
Wolfgang’s weight loss journey
McManis and Schatz first met Wolfgang when they volunteered to foster him. The pooch had been rescued by volunteers from the Arizona Beagle Rescue then. The couple was speechless when they arrived at the shelter and saw a 90-pound Beagle standing in front of them.
The couple failed to understand how Wolfgang managed to gain that much weight while living as a stray. After taking the obese fur baby to the vet, they discovered that the pup had a thyroid condition. Aside from proper medication, the only way to deal with it was to limit his food intake to only 600 calories each day.
They also encouraged the pooch to go on daily walks to rid his body of all that extra weight. He could only walk to the mailbox near the door at first. As each day passed, he was able to increase his walking distance.
The biggest loser
Wolfgang’s determination to feel lighter and healthier helped him shed off all those stubborn extra pounds. His owners shocked everyone when they revealed that he now only weighs 30 pounds. Know more about his journey in the video below:
