Goldendoodles are great as therapy dogs because they have all the characteristics needed to become one. They are extremely friendly, intelligent, loyal, and eager to work. With the proper training, they will remain calm and confident even when around complete strangers. And the fact that they are so adorable helps so much in this case.
Luckily for the Bellevue Nebraska Police, a Goldendoodle breeding organization called Midwest Puppy, LLC decided to donate one of their pups to be used for their community relations program. They were sent an eight-week-old pooch who was named Mo.
Honor
Ashley Meyers is an officer in the Bellevue Nebraska Police whose job is to be a handler of their therapy dogs. She used to be a Colorado state trooper before moving on to her current position. According to her, when she met Mo, she was instantly reminded of his old colleague, a Colorado state trooper as well, named Will Moden.
Both he and the pup exhibit friendly and bright personalities. So she named the young pooch after him.
Unfortunately, Will perished while investigating a road accident. A speeding car didn’t see the kind officer, and he got fatally hit. Ashley wanted to honor the hardworking and dedicated man everyone looked up to.
Reaching out
Mo immediately underwent training. Generous local business owners covered his expenses, including the cost of some of his everyday needs. The puppy showed a lot of potential, and the officers knew his help would benefit the community. Even while he was in the therapy dog program, the young pooch was making the officers smile and giving them a break from their daily mental stress.
Once he graduates and becomes certified, Mo will join Ashley and the other officers when they visit schools and other community projects. He will be there to help people open up and reach out. The pup will also be instrumental in assisting victims in their interviews.
