It is not only humans who experience suffering in this world. Animals also have their ‘fair’ share of these unwanted experiences — especially dogs.
With all the news we’ve been hearing almost every day about the brutal treatments that dogs have received from their owners, coining them as ‘man’s best friend’ gets more ironic every day. For example, take the case of a dog who was saved from her homeless and unloved condition by a nonprofit animal rescue organization called Howl of a Dog, which is based in Romania.
It was a chance encounter when one of their staff spotted a stray dog living in a company’s parking lot. Of course, being animal rescuers themselves, the staff’s first instinct was to rescue this dog and provide her with food and permanent home.
But it was way more complicated than they had expected.
The dog, which they named Zuzi, was obviously afraid of them, indicating that she is carrying fear and mistrust towards humans.
By digging about the dog’s history, the staff discovered that this terrified dog had a traumatic experience in life, which explains why Zuzi showed fear (instead of delight) when she saw the rescuers. The staff discovered that Zuzi was once brutally chased by animal control officers who would not hesitate to use any methods, no matter how brutal, to catch dogs and put them on the city’s pound.
But the staff were determined to bring Zuzi under their care so she can be treated, fed, and be given a permanent home. When they caught her, she was then given with necessary treatments, fed, and was put on a new home. There, she met other dogs and cats, who, like her, was given a new lease of life and getting back on their feet.
Now, Zuzi is learning to trust people again, thanks to the dedication and selfless love given by her new family. And with all these great things happening on her right now, Zuzi is ready to start a living her new life. But unknown to her, something better is coming her way.
With the help of countless people who helped share Zuzi’s story on various social media platforms, a Canadian family visiting Romania saw Zuzi and immediately contacted the nonprofit organization to tell them that they are delighted to adopt the dog. The Canadian family is very well-aware of the conditions that the dogs in Romania have to go through, that’s why adopting a dog from this place is the least they can do to save a dog from these harsh conditions.
Zuzi is now in Canada with her new family and is now ready to take new challenges in life, with a permanent family ready to stand by her side.
