Collisions between vehicles and dogs are often expected to be deadly encounters, especially if the accident happens on a freeway. The likelihood that a dog will survive is slimmer, but for a tough and brave dog named Scout, it is possible to beat the odds. Scout is a German Shepherd mix, and he was on one of the busiest freeways in the United States. He was not only hit once but twice, but he lived.
There is no doubt that the Gulf Freeway is considered a high traffic freeway, and seeing a dog running along is a shocking sight. Kaitlin Airola witnessed the incident as she also tried to avoid hitting a dog, and as Scout was hopping along, he got hit not by one but two cars. Kaitlin felt sorry for the dog, and she did everything she could to help him. Even several other drivers who saw what happened to Scout offered to help.
Poor Scout had a broken rear leg, and it was clear that he was in shock. He needed immediate medical care, so he was brought to League City Animal Shelter. After the accident, the League City Pets Alive made an appointment for Scout so an orthopedic specialist could examine him thoroughly. Though he was doing great in the shelter, he needed to be transferred to a foster home.
League City Animal Shelter is thankful for those who helped Scout survive the accident. At the moment, Scout is waiting for kindhearted individuals to foster him, and he is also grateful that he was surrounded by a supportive community that is willing to go the extra mile to help him. Scout’s story is an inspiration to all because no matter how difficult the situation is, there is someone who will extend help.
