Sharon and Mark Starmer, who hail from British Columbia, are dedicated dog parents to 46 rescue dogs. The couple took these 46 dogs under their care because they knew that the dogs would receive the care they needed.
According to the couple, the 46 rescue dogs found it hard to get adopted due to old age and poor health. With this, Sharon and Mark decided that they would be the ones to look after the dogs for good. This is why the couple migrated to Canada and purchased four acres of land to serve as a paradise for the dogs. Although the move somehow drained their resources, the couple did not mind. For them, the safety of the dogs is what mattered the most.
In an interview, the couple shared how their passion for dogs started. It was in 2004 when the two first rescued a dog. The dog got abandoned by his previous owners, so Sharon and Mark decided to take him. Before they knew it, Sharon and Mark began to welcome more dogs into their home.
Since they adopted several dogs, this idea did not bode well to some of the Alberta authorities. The primary reason was that the couple does not have permission to engage in such an initiative. This forced the couple to move from Alberta to Canada, where it is more lenient to raise abandoned dogs.
When the couple found the best place for the dogs, Sharon and Mark immediately purchased the land. It took them a while before they transferred the dogs there, but it was all worth it. The dogs are now enjoying their lives free from any restraints from the government. Sharon and Mark continue with their passion for looking after the dogs. Although this kind of initiative is physically taxing, the couple does not mind.
