All dog owners must know this number one rule: Never leave your dog inside the car, especially on a hot day. You have the choice to take your pet with you or, at the very least, leave the air conditioner on or the car window open.
Sadly, this is the same rule that people take for granted. There is countless news of dogs suffering from heatstroke because of this type of animal neglect.
It was a scorching hot day in Canada, and a man tries to throw a rock to break the window of another person’s car. At first glance, it may seem like a violent act done out of rage, but it turns out that he’s a good Samaritan, and he’s doing someone a favor.
A small, white dog is trapped inside the car. The car windows are shut, and the doors are locked. The owners sadly left their dog inside. It was a dangerous situation for the poor pup, and if the owners don’t get back to the car in time, the poor dog may die.
The man, named Mark Lewis, found the car – a black BMW, under the sun’s direct heat. The dog was in the front passenger seat, panicking and suffering from the heat. A resident reported that the owners were away for around 50 minutes, despite announcing that they should return.
Mark had no choice but to take action right away. He grabbed a huge rock and threw it several times through the back window. Finally, the glass broke, and Mark was able to unlock the car and get the dog. The crowd clapped and cheered as he did so.
The dog, whom we learned was named Cotton, was limp and lethargic when Mark took him out of the car. People gave him water to drink, and five minutes later, Cotton was full of life again, playing happily.
It turned out that while Mark inevitably did damage to someone’s car, he did the owners a huge favor. They arrived fifty minutes after the rescue, and if Mark or anyone didn’t act right away, things could have gotten so much worse.
What would have been a better way to respond to this situation without damaging someone else’s property is to call animal control and let them take care of the situation. But at that moment, Mark had nothing else in mind but to save Cotton. Kudos to this sharp and kindhearted man!
