One day, a man from Franklin, Indiana was walking down the street when he noticed something a bit strange. It was a dog walking alone and it looked lost. The dog looked quite friendly though and so he approached it.
As he looked closely, he realized that the pooch had a message inside a bottle that was tied to her collar. The message in a bottle actually explained where the canine had come from. For unexplainable reasons, the dog’s former owner decided to abandon her right on the streets, with a small note explaining how loved she had been.
Fortunately, the German Shepherd mix, Roadie, was seen by such a kind man who quickly noticed the message in a bottle which was hanging around her neck. This good samaritan who rescued her was Michael Delp, a director of the institution called Johnson County Animal Control.
Roadie’s life took a huge turn and changed for the better. It turned out, she was going to be rehomed sooner than expected.
As soon as Jeremy Pell, chief of the White River Township Fire Department, had known about Roadie’s heartbreaking story, he knew that the dog would be a perfect fit to train as a search and rescue dog. He immediately visited her at the shelter.
As they were evaluating Roadie for the role, Jeremy was so pleased to see that she was passing all her tests easily. From that moment, he decided to adopt her. Now that she’s part of Jeremy’s family, they decided to give Roadie a new name just like their other dogs. Her new lovely name is Rosie Grace.
With Rosie having a new home, she has been doing great and has been living her best life. She is also recognized as a fully certified search and rescue dog. Talk about a former rescued dog turned rescuer!
