If you have that one good friend who you can count on throughout your lifetime, you’re quite fortunate. That is precisely how 12-year-old blind pug Augie and his seeing-eye dog friend, Chihuahua Pepe, feel.
Augie and Pepe lost their only home after their owner was diagnosed with a terminal disease. To make matters worse, Augie himself was having significant health issues.
Fortunately, Colorado Pug Rescue (CPR) was able to provide a foster home for them both. A woman named Cyndi Trimber was more than willing to foster the dogs.
Having Pepe by his side has helped Augie achieve a healthy lifestyle as a senior dog in every way. Pepe is a Chihuahua Emotional Support Dog for Augie, who requires his assistance in many aspects of his life.
Initially, veterinarians discovered that Augie had a cardiac murmur, but echocardiography revealed that it was harmless. Then Augie had a mild case of pneumonia, which he miraculously overcame with medication.
Finally, after recovering, Augie was prepared for the most critical part of his journey towards better health: eye surgery. Despite being blind, his eyes exerted a great deal of unpleasant strain, which made the vets decide that removing them is the best way to go. It freed Augie from all the discomfort that he had been feeling and it also allowed the vets to not worry about an eye rupture happening.
The dog also had 14 decaying teeth which had to be extracted so as to make sure that the dog does not have to suffer from serious dental disease.
Thankfully, Pepe was present throughout Augie’s recuperation. Augie triumphed like a puppy with a second chance at life.
Augie and Pepe are as inseparable as two peas in a pod – one cannot exist without the other. They even share meals and sleep together. They have each other through thick and thin since that is what true friends are for. Hopefully, they will soon find a permanent residence.
